Chief Administrative Officer / Clerk Job Posting

The Township of Schreiber is currently seeking a Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) / Clerk. Reporting directly to Mayor and Council, the CAO/Clerk provides vision, strategic and inclusive leadership to the entire organization. This executive position is an opportunity for a career minded leader to make a significant contribution and positive influence on this community.

Schreiber is located on the North Shore of Lake Superior, along Highway 17 in Ontario and just 2.5 hours east of Thunder Bay. This rural community has a population of approximately 1,100 and offers its residents the perfect setting to enjoy a balanced lifestyle: affordable housing and land, a friendly place to raise a family, opportunities to grow a business and endless ways to experience the outdoors.

The CAO/Clerk will be responsible for the efficient and effective administration and leadership of all departments and resources of the Township. As the CAO/Clerk, the candidate should possess a thorough knowledge of governance, municipal law, applicable provincial and federal legislation, labour relations, finance, and project management. The ideal candidate should possess exceptional communication skills, political acumen, and the ability to foster partnerships with diverse stakeholders.

Salary to be negotiated at $85,000-$100,000 per annum. The Township offers competitive compensation and a comprehensive benefits package.

URGENT NOTICE TO RESIDENTS

The electrical storm last night in Schreiber caused the water treatment plant to go offline. The Township of Schreiber is now relying on the elevated storage tank to supply the township with safe drinking water. While crews continue to work at bringing the water plant back online, the Township of Schreiber is asking residents to conserve water usage while we rely on the Township’s stored water supply.

Please be patient as the Township of Schreiber continues to work towards a resolution and they wish to thank all residents for their cooperation and understanding during this time.

Council is seeking volunteers for positions on the Committees listed below, for the term of Council ending November 14, 2026.  If you are eager to share your input, ideas and suggestions, please consider applying to the following Committees:

Accessibility Advisory Committee

To provide advice to the Township of Schreiber to remove barriers for people with disabilities and help make public services and facilities accessible to everyone.

Beautification Committee

To provide advice to the Township of Schreiber on aspects towards the utilization of and beautification of public parks, green space, and the Schreiber Cemetery. To improve the aesthetic and community image of Schreiber.

Community Economic Development Committee

To advise and make recommendations to Council on matters related to business retention, attraction, expansion, tourism, and on the implementation of promoting local businesses.

Recreation and Festivals Committee

To advise and make recommendations to Council on matters related to the programming and utilization of Schreiber’s recreational facilities.  To advise and make recommendations to Council on the implementation of a Recreation and Festivals Strategic Plan.

Senior Committee

To promote healthy aging, independence and the well-being of seniors and the elderly through health, wellness, educational, cultural, and recreational programs. To improve the lives of seniors and the elderly by providing them with access to the Schreiber Senior Centre.

Schreiber Youth Committee

To advise Council of important recreational and social issues concerning the Town’s younger population.  To make recommendations and host youth programs, workshops, and conduct surveys to address concerns and needs of youth.
