Bear Tips
The potential for human-bear interactions increases when there are less natural food sources available. This is when food sources such as garbage, fruit trees and bird seed can draw bears into populated areas.
If you have a fruit tree attracting bears, we encourage you to harvest the fruit from the trees to reduce the number of unwanted visits in your neighbourhood.
Follow these tips to prevent an unwanted visit by bears foraging for food:
• Garbage: eliminate odours. Put garbage in containers that have tight fitting lids and only put it out the morning of garbage day, not the night before.
• When possible, store garbage in bear-resistant containers.
• Be aware that cooking odours can attract bears
• Remove grease and food residue from barbecue grills, including the grease cup underneath.
If a bear has been spotted repeatedly in your neighbourhood, contact Township of Schreiber, Director of Operations 807-824-2711 ext. 230.
In a life-threatening emergency, call 9-1-1.
Ongoing Construction on the Casque Isles
Due to the ongoing work being done on theA6 to Picnic Table Lookout trail (Sewer Plant to Lookout) and the persistent wet weather we are asking the public to avoid the trail to allow it to dry. This makes it easier for further construction to take place in a timely fashion.
A large investment has been made into the project which will create a new recreational outdoor experience for our region and visitors.
We need your help to keep the construction on schedule. If the weather dries up and the situation improves more access will be allowed. Thank you for your patience.
