COVID 19 Omicron Update – Municipal Recreation Facilities:

Based on Ontario’s response to the Omicron variant and the introduction of 50 percent capacity limits in public settings, the following COVID-19 protocols are now in place effective immediately at municipal facilities:

  • The Schreiber Arena will have a spectator capacity limit of 250 users and no food or drink will be allowed in the facility;
  • The Schreiber Community Hall will have a capacity limit of 200 users and no food or drink will be allowed in the facility;
  • The Schreiber Fitness Centre will have a capacity limit of 6 users and no food or drink will be allowed in the facility;
  • The Municipal Complex Gym will have a capacity limit of 125 users and no food or drink will be allowed in the facility;
  • The Senior’s Centre will have a capacity limit of 12 users and no food or drink will be allowed in the facility;
  • The Quilting Room will have a capacity limit of 8 users and no food or drink will be allowed in the facility;
  • The Pool Room will have a capacity limit of 4 users and no food or drink will be allowed in the facility;
  • Users participating in the Fitness Centre or in organized sports will be allowed individual drinks for hydration purposes;
  • Active proof of vaccine screening, physical distancing, mask-wearing, and hand hygiene will remain in place at all municipal facilities. 

We recognize the disruption and inconvenience of these closures. We are addressing this pandemic and public health emergency very seriously and are taking every precaution to keep our residents and employees safe.

Municipal Facility Closures for the Holidays

The Municipal Office will be closed December 25, 2021 to January 3, 2022 inclusive and will reopen for regular business January 4, 2022. Payments can still be made through electronic means (telephone, online, mobile banking), in person at your financial institution and by mail (cheque or money order, do not send cash).

As well, there is a dropbox installed at the front entrance for residents to drop off cheques in letter envelopes.Please be advised that the following facilities will also be closed during the following time periods:

Public Library Closed Dec 24 – Jan 4th

Medical Centre Closed Dec 20th – 3rd

Mountain View Dental Dec 24th – Jan 4th

Schreiber Arena Closed Dec 25th, 26th, 27th, 28th & January 1st.

Citizen of the Year Award

Each year, Council solicits nominations for the Citizen of the Year award from residents and chooses a recipient based on volunteer service to the community. Mayor and Council are pleased to announce that the recipient of the 2021 Citizen of the Year award is Carrie Moore. Thank you, Carrie, for your service to the residents of Schreiber and congratulations on your award.

COVID Vaccines Notice

Please do not call the Doctor’s offices regarding COVID vaccines – we are no longer running the clinics Thunder Bay District Health Unit (TBDHU) is.

We are posting information on the clinics they are running but cannot facilitate a faster appointment for you. Currently there are no appointments for both the Dec. 20th clinic nor the Jan. 11 clinic.  We believe there will be another clinic on Jan. 25th but it is not open on the Ontario booking system yet. 

If we notified that more appointments have been open for Dec. 20th or Jan. 11 we will post. 

If we are notified that the Jan 25 clinic is available for booking, we will post. 

Please follow us on FB and encourage others to do the same, we will post information as it becomes available to us. 

If you are going to Thunder Bay you can try booking online for a clinic there.  Remember you will not receive an appointment until 168 days after your second vaccine, and currently you must be 50+.  Thanks for your patience and understanding.  NSFHT

Congratulations Costa’s!

From the beginning of a small grocery business in 1942 to successful two family owned and operated businesses, Costa’s has provided exceptional service to the residents of Schreiber, Terrace Bay and the north shore. 

The Township of Schreiber has had numerous opportunities to work with the Costa/Commisso families in Township endeavours and the Mayor, Council and staff thank them for their many years of dedication and service.  Congratulations on your well deserved retirement, we wish you all the best.

Lighting of the Christmas Tree

The Schreiber Beautification Committee will be planning to turn on the Christmas lighting on the tree at the front of the Municipal Complex on Wednesday, December 1st at 7:00pm.

Members of the public are welcome to gather at the front of the Municipal Complex with members of the Beautification Committee to celebrate this with some hot chocolate, cookies, and Christmas music playing.
