Summer Student Positions 2019

The Township of Schreiber and the Schreiber Public Library have been approved for the following summer student positions:

  1. General Labourer- Public Works (x4):

The public works general labourers will be overseen by our Recreation Lead Hand and trained on skills and abilities necessary to complete particular tasks that they may be asked to do and which our Recreation Lead Hand has background information/training on.

Those hired on as General Labourers for Public Works will be assisting the Recreation Lead Hand and the overall department with various maintenance duties including, but not limited to, the following:

  • Grass Cutting
  • Brush Cutting
  • Light Carpentry
  • Painting
  • Setting up and Taking down various recreation venues for special events

Qualifications:

  • Applicants must be between 15 and 30 years of age
  • $14.00 per hour—Full-Time Seasonal Position
  • Post-Secondary education level preferred, but not mandatory
  • Communication Skills
  • Teamwork Skills
  • Customer Service Skills
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds

  1. Tourism Information Officers (x2):

The Tourism Information Officers are an integral part of the Township of Schreiber’s ability to attract and adequately serve tourists during the summer months. From the middle of May until September, the Schreiber Railway Museum is often the Township’s best opportunity to draw travellers into the business district. Students will have the opportunity to work in the Schreiber Railway Museum and/or the Township of Schreiber Municipal Office.

Those hired on as Tourism Information Officers have the opportunity to be tasked with the following responsibilities:

  • Work with the community economic development office to receive tourism and customer service training
  • Provide visitors with a tour of the museum
  • Provide visitors with historical context in terms of how Canadian railroading history is related to Schreiber
  • Give visitors’ information about local services and amenities
  • Opening and closing the museum
  • Help to set up for the season by cleaning up and decorating
  • Conduct analysis of and reports on our new tourism counters placed along Schreiber Beach
  • Respond to and research points of interest for special experiential tourism information requests from Superior Country Visitor Referrals
  • Photographing key destination points in Schreiber in relation to tourism and adventure
  • Assist our Recreation department in small tasks related to upcoming tourism and recreation summer events
  • Assist with content marketing for the In the Company of Artisans not-for-profit program along the North Shore via online postings geared towards the presence of experiential-artistic tourism in the North

Qualifications:

  • Applicants must be between 15 and 30 years of age

  1. Event Coordinator: Schreiber Public Library Summer Student

The person hired on as the Event Coordinator alongside the Schreiber Public Library will have the opportunity to be involved with, but are not limited to, some of the following tasks:

  • Heritage Days activities
  • Other activities the Library will become involved with
  • Summer Reading Program

 

Qualifications:

  • Applicants must be between 15 and 30 years of age
  • $14.00 per hour
  • Computer Skills
  • Organizational Skills
  • Communication Skills
